Performers
Shanghaied on the Willamette
Shanghaied on the Willamette is the lively musical duo of Jonathan Lay and Gordy Euler, performing songs and tunes “plundered from land and sea,” on a range of instruments. They especially love the music of seas and waterways, and have performed traditional Celtic, English, and American music, along with their own songs, at the festivals, pubs, and concert halls all around the Pacific Northwest.
Fl!p Breskin and Zeke Hoskin
Zeke and Fl!p are singers, songwriters, and musicians based in Bellingham, Washington.
Zeke writes witty songs that other musicians love to sing and record (like “Hunting The Duck”, and “Valparaiso in a Rowboat”). He usually plays mandolin, and dabbles in whistles and harmonica.
Fl!p is a nimble finger style guitarist and unpretentious vocalist, and a co-founder of the Puget Sound Guitar Workshop. She writes and sings songs about the positive ways people can fix the world (like, “One Heart At A Time”, which was chosen for the sequel to the Rise Up Singing songbook).
Gather Round
Headed by award-winning songwriter Peter Rothbart, Gather Round brings together singers from wide-ranging traditions to produce a rich blend of original and cover material with harmonies in all the right places. Pairing deeply-rooted folk sensibilities with mouthwatering vocal talent, this ensemble is fast becoming a fixture in Seattle’s a cappella scene.
Masters of Ceremony: Dano Quinn and Dan Roberts
Captain Dano Quinn
Dano is an award winning story teller, sea shanty singer, and champion liar. He draws on his 40 year career spanning the globe aboard Tall ships, yachts, and small cruise ships in Alaska and on the Columbia River to find or concoct the tales that entertain us and win him awards.
Dan Roberts
Dan has an extensive knowledge of Northwest maritime history and music, and is a skilled writer and editor. Raised in the Bay Area, graduate of Pomona College, Dan Roberts also studied opera and received the training that makes his voice one of the most notable and powerful in the folk music community. Dan’s repertoire spans centuries, and his voice spans three octaves. He is a veteran of the Victory at Sea chantey group, member of the Seattle Labor Chorus, as well as the bands Bold Horizon and The Whateverly Brothers. Dan was employed at the non-profit organization Northwest Seaport from 1997-2006, where he managed the music program and led ship tours, and was largely responsible for re-establishing the Northwest Seaport Chantey Sing in 2000.
