Performers

SeaStar
Fae Wiedenhoeft and her Seattle band, SeaStar, have played all over the Pacific Northwest and toured 10 countries (and counting). Fae writes her songs with a fusion of Celtic, Folk, Maritime, Americana, and Bluegrass, with echoes of psychedelic rock. Fae and SeaStar do not fit into one genre. They love it all. SeaStar is Fae Wiedenhoeft, Captain Chambers, Michael Falcone, and Ron Allen.

Quimper’s Watch
Quimper’s Watch is a maritime music group from the historic seaport of Port Townsend, WA. Its five members collectively bring together decades of knowledge and experience in maritime music and transform it into a rich, dynamic musical experience. Whether it’s ‘a cappella’ shanty working songs or instrumented sea ballads, their strong voices and multi-part harmonies combine to capture the heritage and soul of these work songs that once echoed across Port Townsend’s Victorian waterfront during the golden age of sail.
The name Quimper’s Watch honors Spanish naval officer Manuel Quimper Benítez del Pino (1757 – 1844). Quimper is credited as being the first person of European descent to explore and chart the north and south coasts of the Strait of Juan de Fuca, where he named the peninsula on which Port Townsend sits. He was a gifted maritime cartographer, author, and poet.
Master of Ceremony: Helen Gilbert
Helen Gilbert
A native of the UK, Helen Gilbert was immersed in the traditional maritime music of her homeland. She has been an active member of the maritime singing community of the Pacific Northwest since moving here in 2006, and has performed at schools, libraries, and cultural events as a singer and Morris dancer. In addition to being one of the founders of the Port Townsend Shanty Sing, she founded the monthly Seattle Pub Sing, is a frequent leader of the Northwest Seaport Chantey Sing, and a regular performer at the Northwest Folklife Festival. She helped produce the book “Sing Shanties & Songs About the Sea” in remembrance of local Shantyman Steve Lewis and his extensive collection of Shanties and Maritime songs.
